What are the assumptions underpinning this theory? Discuss how this theory finds application in your area of practice. There are two parts to this discussion: (a) identify a grand or middle-range theory related to research, and (b) identify a grand or middle range theory related to practice. Middle-range theories differ from grand theories in scope and applicability. Middle-range theories are more concrete and smaller in scope than grand-theories; however, both have an impact on the creation of nursing knowledge.  The goal is to not create knowledge for knowledge sake, but rather expand the scientific discipline with research pertinent to nursing and patient outcomes. The termepistemology refers to “the study of knowing” (Butts & Rich, 2015, p. 10).  Some scientists believe science is neutral value free absent of ethical underpinnings or moral judgments. However, some philosophers interpret this differently, that the values are inextricably a component of theory choice (Okasha, 2002). Identify the underlying assumptions for the theory you selected. Discuss how this theory applies to research and your practice.
