I want to discuss child abuse because it is a reality in this world. Child abuse is a social problem that affects millions of children each year. Not only does child abuse have multiple societal repercussions, but also individual repercussions that produce lifelong scars. We know there are many forms of child abuse: there is sexual, physical, verbal, and emotional abuse. It has been reported that one out of three girls, and one out of seven boys are sexually abused by the time they reach the age of eighteen. On the internet, I read a study that showed approximately 27 percent of the women in every state of the union, and 16 percent of the men said they had been sexually abused as children. Child abuse two words that should never have to be seen side by side.
Unfortunately, to wish otherwise would be the same as to wish for a perfect world. I watch the news a lot, and one night I was watching the NBC news at 10 pm. There it was, talking about how a two year old girl got abused in New Jersey. Her mother met a man on Internet, and she agreed for that man to come to her home and let the guy have sex with her two year old baby. For me to hear something like this I just wanted to cry; my heart was hurting me inside. Until this day, I still remember the story. Hearing something like this makes me think why would that man want a two year old girl? What kind of pleasure can you get from a two year old girl. There are no body parts really; she is so small. For me to hear a man raping a women hurts my heart; but raping a two year old girl, makes me what to turn the world around. And what about the mother –did she care for her child? I cant understand how could a mother do that to her child.
How cruel do you have to be to due something like that. And I dont understand why didnt the mother have sex with that man why the baby? After all these thoughts ran through my head I called my friend and told him about what I just heard on the news. His first words were, I wish these people were be shot and made a examples for others who would even think about doing something like that. I disagreed with my friend about this because thats not an answer to a problem. If we kill every man or woman that abuses others, what kind of example are we showing to others that it is alright to kill to get a better world, No No No! If we go back to our history and for example Oedipus the King play by Sophocles. Laius and Jocasta were king and queen of Thebes, a town in Greece. One day, they had a baby boy. An oracle prophesied that the boy would grow up and kill his father and marry his mother. To thwart the prophecy, Laius and Jocasta decided to kill their baby. Laius and Jocasta did this. To be extra-sure, they pierced his little feet and tied them together. In those days, it was usual to leave an unwanted or defective baby in the wilderness. But why is that ? It make me think, just because the prophesy told the oracle. So if people believe in prophesy so much.
For example a women gives birth to a beautiful baby and the nurse tell her your child is going to grow up to be a killer. So should she go and kill her baby because the nurse told her that. I hope she wouldnt do that, because the world will be a mess.If everyone is going to start killing their children and abuse them just because they have a bad feeling about their kids or because they didnt come out the way they wanted them too. And there a lot of people that want a boy but it comes out a girl or they want their child to play sports but they are in to music and artNo! We must do the best that we can as a society with the power of laws on our side to help the innocent young victims of child abuse. We have a responsibility as human beings to do all that we can for these children. Some of us fulfill this responsibility by promoting awareness, some by donating time, money, or services, some by getting laws passed, and some by enforcing laws that protect children from all kinds of abuse. People need to understand what we as a society may be doing wrong and also what we may be doing right to help the young victims of child abuse. We need to look at all types of studies and compare them and try to break them down to better understand them.
The first things that should be understood are; the characteristics of the offenders, the type of offenses, and some of the societal issues that are listed as possible causes of child abuse. Studies show that the characteristics of sexual abuse offenders are; dependent, inadequate individuals with early histories characterized by conflict, disruption, abandonment, abuse, and exploitation. I read on Internet that in 1997, over three million children were reported for child abuse and neglect to child protective service agencies in the U.S.. And top six causes of children abuse listed were drug addiction, property, violent society, lack of community, family history of violence, lack of parenting skills. We will have a lot of people asking where is God when all this happing. Should we include God in this? Does God have anything to do with this? And a lot of people will bring God in questioning soon as they hear something horrible as a child abuse or any horrible action. And I wish I can know the answer to these questions but I just dont know. Its not something that you can answer.
And for most part people believe in God so much that they think everything happens for a reason but it really doesnt. Can we control something that happens to use, yes for the most part. But there are a lot of things that cant be controlled. And we should leave it like that and not look for answers for every good and bad happenings.
